Create community agreements

Research shows that people feel more connected to a community when allowed to develop their own expectations and consequences (Davis, 2007). It can be helpful to introduce a basic set of ground rules for participants to reflect on and facilitate a discussion about the norms to ensure that everyone has been heard and feels comfortable with the expectations. Collectively creating community agreements with students and team members can reduce instances of negative discourse during classes, events, and meetings (Nilson, 2010).
