That is one of those “simple to implement but oh-so-powerful practices”. What students will share is amazing when given time to gather their thoughts. It also allows all students to engage even those who need a minute or two to gain the courage to speak up. Thank you for reminding me of this great practice!

This sounds like an excellent assignment! A lot of the experts we spoke to for the AI Quick Study series said that having students pass in what AI generated is an excellent way to create an AI-inclusive assignment. It’s also helpful to then ask them to argue AI’s response.

I love that you’re using OERs in your course! We are working on a Quick Study to help faculty effectively use these resources. What’s one piece of advice you have that we can pass on?

Adding visuals are such a good idea. It breaks up the text and invites the reader in. Canva is my go-to for creating infographics that are easy, and, dare I say it, fun, to create.

You may want to look into Google Sites (https://support.google.com/sites/answer/6372878?hl=en). It’s fairly easy to use, and although it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, you can create a fairly decent and easy-to-navigate site that displays well on phones as well. Thanks for sharing! Letting students see you as a real person can make such a difference to a student’s sense of safety in the classroom. Admitting to making a mistake shows them that we all make mistakes and we can all recover from them. Mistakes are part of life and your sharing your own can help them open up as well.

You are so right, Karen! A teaching journal is a good way to remember the good along with the bad and the ugly! As educators, we often focus on what didn’t work or that one student who gave us a less-than-stellar review, but with a journal, we can keep those moments in perspective.
