My most essential teaching tool is creativity.

The one thing I always forget to bring to my 8 a.m. class is my ChapStick. My lips get dry with all the talking!

I know it’s the middle of the semester when I see my students barely dragging in the door on time.

    1. Essential Tool: A well designed, updated syllabus with a course overview, expectations aligned with Learning Outcomes. I also provide a video Welcome Message accessible before the course begins.

    2. I do teach an 8 am class online, synchronous. I’ve leaned that preparing for the lectures is best done the night before (if times allows). My challenge is engaging the 30 students that have literally gone from their beds to the meeting. A shower and caffeine are a must for me.

    3. I know when midterm arrives when I see reduced student attendance to our zoom meetings. I record these sessions, so they know they have access to the material discussion they missed.
