A successful class session is one in which students challenge the material and apply it to their future careers

Hi – I teach basic sciences as well as clinical pathology and medicine course and it’s always very satisfying for me when the students demonstrate either in lab or in class discussions that they understand how all the little pieces of info. they have learned are applied to patients whether in the context of normal physiology, clinical evaluation of patients or disease states. The vast majority of my students these days are not prepared for college level work, particularly in a medical program, so when they show that they can be successfully guided to put it all together themselves and learn with an appropriate depth of understanding – as opposed to just memorizing facts as many are used to doing – it’s a really good day. – R

When students ask questions that I have not thought about before. These new perspectives make the experience unique no matter how often I’ve taught the same class. The questions also tell me that students are engaged and thinking critically.

Yes, Victor, it’s really great when you can tell that students are engaged and thinking about concepts by the questions they ask!
