The forum opportunities stand out to me the most. I believe that they underscore the other resources that ACUE provides, which I found so beneficial as I started my adjunct instructor journey. I like the forums are available in the library, if I ever need a refresher!

I watched Expert Dive: Motivating Students to Learn with Dr. Michael Wesch and this was inspiring. I have been wanting to make videos for my students but not sure they would watch them and not sure how to really plan them out. While I don’t have editing software this video was very helpful and inspired me to just start.

His videos are great, and it’s great to know that there’s someone out there that’s sharing videos that aren’t perfect but are endearing to his students just the same.

Yes! I am such the perfectionist and during covid I did all these videos so I know I can do it but I want to publish mine so I think that is what is holding me back.

I understand that! Something that might help is to remind yourself that TikTok, YouTube vloggers, and Snapchat are popular with younger students. Casual videos are perfectly normal to them.

True, I just need to go for it and do it. Thank you.

True and I think I just want to make it interesting so I don’t want to talk a lot and I am a talker unfortunately.

So I’m not sure what you mean by “new” but it really is all new to me as I haven’t been able to spend much time tooling around on in the Resource Library to date. I love the ability to filter! I am not teaching online currently so I choose in-person teaching and further filtered with Active Learning and Class Discussions. There’s really a lot of great stuff to read but I particularly liked a couple blog posts by Harry Brighouse. His post: <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var( –e-global-color-text );”>A Game-Changer in Accountability: Using Online Discussion Boards (Even in Face-to-Face Classes) was especially helpful in that I also use online discussions with Canvas in my lecture courses and am currently planning to change the structure for next year after facing widespread apathy with my new freshmen this fall. He gave me some ideas and validated that I was on the right track, based on his outcomes. Another <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var( –e-global-color-text ); background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color);”>Navigating the Need for Rigor and Engagement: How to Make Fruitful Class Discussions Happen was helpful also as I struggle with balancing in-class discussion activities with the need to efficiently present material via lecture. This is an extremely hectic time for me, as it likely is for everyone, but I’m hoping to be able to set aside some time over break after the X-mas holiday to more fully explore the Resource Library. – R
