Use wait time

After asking a question in a live or synchronous session, it is important to give students time to reflect and prepare a response. Research has found that instructors typically wait less than one second between asking a question and calling on a student to respond. Increasing this time to five to seven seconds before calling on a student can improve both the number of students who respond and the quality of their responses.
