My favorite read so far this summer has been Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story. I have been making a point to read all of the banned books by the Department of Education to my children. I truly enjoyed this story.

I encountered the same thing before. I was in grad school and I had to travel while a novel was assigned and I listened to it on tape. I told the professor and I cite things in my paper based on the time stamp of the audio. They asked me not to do it again and essentially said it isn’t kosher, so to speak.

When I was an undergrad at Michigan, they had their own LMS called CTools. It went down pretty regularly. To be fair, that was a long time ago, but there is something to be said for consolidation in this case.

What a nightmare! My IT department was able to send an announcement to all students, college-wide, and able to make it accessible as soon as possible. Interesting to experience technology’s vulnerabilities and their impact.

I would lean that same direction concerning privacy and official university email addresses. I’ll have to find the article again to revisit the privacy argument.

I’m reading some new books that came out in criminal justice. One is called Crime Fictions and one is called Marked by Time.

I also need some non-academic reading so I’d love any recommendations. My only requirement is that it is a little old because nothing is worse than wanting to read something and you are #1,093 on the waitlist for the library 😜

I have read all of the Hunger Games books, including the prequels, but haven’t listened to them. I am a fan of Tatiana Maslany, so I might have to give them a shot.

Barbara Kingsolver’s The Poisonwood Bible is first up.

Thanks for these, I am a fan of thrillers and really enjoy reading things non-work related as part of the unwind.

I LOVE AUDIO BOOKS. But I have a question for you. When you listen to an audio book, afterwards do you refer to the book as something you’ve “read?” I always refer to my audio book completions that way but have a little tiny something inside me that feels like that is cheating or something? Could be my Catholic sensibilities at work here. Just wondering.

One book I’m enjoying this summer is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It’s full of practical ideas about building better habits and making small improvements that can lead to big results, both personally and professionally. A great summer read!
