Since I’m teaching exclusively online again this semester, my “home” office looks like a bad abstract work of art. I have a a great chair, a 70s huge lamp, and 20 files folders with overflowing documents, an 80s huge stapler and calculator, and 3 headphones (?!). I own a studio apartment with not much space, but 3 miles from campus.

Hope all is well. I agree that students become a bit more complacent around midterm. Your example, and those of other colleagues, seems to demonstrate so. I find myself referring them to the syllabus, to which they might answer “what syllabus?”.
