One significant teaching addition I have made is actively modeling engaging with ChatGPT using constructive, inclusive, detailed, and well-structured prompts. I am hoping to show students ways to interact with ChatGPT to expand knowledge, get concrete examples, deepen their understanding and create tutorials to check comprehension.
As questions arise in class, I often open CHAT GPT, and together we construct a detailed query which we then continue to refine. As we receive a ChatGPT response, we continue asking questions, to get further clarification, examples and illustrations, and sometimes scenarios modeling what we are learning.
I show the students I am requesting citations for any factual claims presented. As a class, we verify the sources to see whether they exist and if we want to read them in detail. I am hoping to teach students how to critically evaluate AI-generated content, and to be ready to question AI confabulations. I am also hoping to highlight the importance of academic integrity.
